Suffrage in the United States poster

Knowing that 2020 was the hundredth year of women’s suffrage, I wanted to create an infographic commemorating the many struggles for suffrage in the United States. Unlike most infographics, I wanted this to tell a story about suffrage through data, rather than just listing numbers on a poster.

To start, I began by gathering a lot of research and data points, with the goal to have many different yet interacting variables. I knew a friendly and simple design would best suit the amount of research, rather than complicated data points on a boxy chart. My solution was a circle, which easily showed how far from 100% suffrage most elections were, and how regressive the U.S. has been when it comes to disenfranchisment in recent decades.</p>

The chart highlights four years, each one an election year with affected by legislation increasing enfranchisment. Those years are broken down in more detail, elaboratiing on the legislation and showing a snapshot of relevant population breakdowns to help the viewer just how many citizens were positively affected.

The size of a movie poster, this infographic cathces the eye from afar and draws the viewer in closer to learn more about the the history of suffrage and the struggles that remain today.
